The Senate this afternoon, Tuesday gives the governor of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki a seven-day ultimatum to issue a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of the state House of Assembly.
The proclamation was made after the Chairman of the Adhoc Committee read their verdict to the house. Their verdict was put into vote and the majority supported the Senate to take over the House of Assembly if the Governor refused to do a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of the House of Assembly.
In addition, the Senate ordered the Clerk of House to send text messages to all the Honourable Members, the date and time for the inauguration.
The Senate President, Ahmed Lawal said their action is constitutional to bring sanity to the polity. He said if the Senate can check the presidency there is no reason why it could correct any anomalies in any of the House of Assembly according to the provision of the law.
