In a bid to ensure safety on our roads, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Osun State command has begun operation “stop the crash in Osun state”.
While the FRSC, Osun Command, on Thursday in Osogbo, Osun state capital, called on the transport stakeholders, motorists to help stop the crash in the state to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries.
The Sector Commander, Mr Inyang Umoh, who spoke through a representative, Mrs M.O Akanbi, the Head of Operation during the One-day stakeholders meeting with transport and road unions, said the need for road users to be safety conscious by abiding with the traffic rules and regulations, adding that safety on the highway is a collective responsibility.
The theme of the engagement, tagged “Accomplished 5 per cent reduction in road traffic deaths and injuries.”
Umoh said some motorists are in the habit of transporting petroleum products in jericans while on highways without taking cognizance of the dangers involved.
He warned that the command under his watch will ensure offenders when apprehended will appear in court of law to give account for their action.
He further said all efforts are in place with the collaboration of transport stakeholders to ensure that road ordinance are complied with by motorists to avoid any calamity or emergencies.
“We are appealing to road users to do away with one way traffic and also transporting animals with passengers while on wheels.
“The command will not hesitate to deal with any offenders apprehended violating raid traffic rules ,” Umoh said.
According to him, there are so many reports of casualties as a result of one way traffic by both okada riders and motorists.
He advised road users and articulated vehicles owners including motorcyclists to get their driver’s license intact in order to avoid been arrested and prosecuted.
In her opening remarks, Deputy Corps Commander (DCM) Medinat Akanbi, said the essence of the stakeholders meeting centered on accomplishing five per cent reduction in road traffic deaths and injuries in the state.
Akanbi appreciated all the transportation unions and other stakeholders for their relentless efforts towards ensuring the safety of lives and properties.
She said FRSC is a shared responsibility and the need to brainstorm on how accident can be curbed becomes paramount.
” If we can not stop accident 100 per cent , we should be able to reduce it and that is possible through collective responsibilities.
At the gathering, the Spokesperson of the Command, Agnes Ogungbemi, specifically mentioned Lamenco road users to avoid passing one way, due to the ongoing road construction, which the contractors had blocked the road and provide alternative route for motorists.
“You don’t need to pass through Lamenco as the road is blocked and alternative roads have been provided, please adhere strictly to the new development due to the ongoing road construction to avoid crash and crisis on roads.”
Stakeholders who spoke at the gathering, Preached safety for residents and Motorists.
“Don’t rush to reach your destination while driving or holding steering, put your tyre in good condition, shun alcohol and always maintain speed limit”
They urged Federal government to put the Electricity in good condition, and develop manufacturing companies in the nation for development and easy access to spare parts of vehicles.

The Chairman, Ajelogbon advised the Osun Road Safety to always permit the Journalists on roads, especially when they are on duty.
He also encouraged the force, to welcome a fast method in the processing Driver’s licence to users.
Correspondent reports that the stakeholders meeting witnessed the presence of security sister agencies in the state, transport union members and media practitioners among others.
