FULL TEXT OF UOII OPINION:
News from the social media had reported the embarrassing and heartbreaking attack by neighbouring hoodlums visited on the female students of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH).
This incident, claimed to have occurred on Thursday 25th, June 2021 and several others crimes in recent times, is indeed unfortunate and rather uncalled for.

The Union of Ikale Indigenes (UOII) views the dastardly and barbaric act of insensitivity and cruelty as lack of good communal co-existence as a result of fallout of ineffective community and poor neighborhood administration where youths, mostly jobless, perpetrate all kinds of atrocities thereby allowing insecurity to grow exponentially.
UOII is particularly agitated and disturbed when OAUSTECH is perceived as the only internationally recognized educational landmark object ever sited by both the State and Federal Governments of Nigeria in this enclave of Ikale, Ijo and Apoi Nations of Ondo State Southern Senatorial District.

It is quite disheartening and extremely incomprehensible that the institution and her entire community members which ought to be treated as a fragile egg by all her surrounding communities have just become an object of bombardment by able bodied hoodlums and community miscreants.
There is no gainsaying the fact that the arrival of this citadel of learning has brought sudden development and growth to all facets of human endeavour within the three nations mentioned above either directly or otherwise.

One wonders therefore, while the gamut of individuals and organizations that have beyond measure benefited immensely within a space of time, from the prospect facilitated to her surrounding communities failed hitherto to ensure a solid security outfit capable of permanently keeping at bay any imagined security challenges able to abruptly bring the University activities to underserved stoppage.
As a matter of urgency, UOII suggests that a comprehensive security outline be mapped out by the combined effort of stakeholders of the immediate communities, to wit, Igodan, Okunmo, Ayeka and Igbodigo and the Nigeria Police/Amotekun on one hand, and the Land Lord Associations or CDC of the various streets showcasing the hostels occupied by the students males and females.

2. Every individual Landlord by compulsion must be made to engage the services of a Security Guard attached to any property in use as Students Hostel.
3. There is urgent need to create a meeting forum of the Landlords Association with the Representative of the University authority and the Student Union Government.
4. Community elites from the three Nations mentioned above can as well form an Elite Club/Association aimed at offering occasional /regular seminar meetings towards the reorientation and inculcation of positive societal values.
5. The University authority is admonished to more than ever before give attention to complaints brought to her knowledge with speed and alacrity.”
