Eight members of gunmen who attacked University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) Staff Quarters on November 2, 2021 have arrested by the police.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police (CP), Babaji Sunday, who disclosed this said “the DSS and other security agencies in a joint operation, the early hours of Friday 5th November, 2021, successfully identified the hideout of the criminals located at Shenegwu forest in the Gwagwalada area of the FCT and rescued all abducted victims unhurt.”
According to a statment issued on Saturday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josphine Adah: “The criminal elements on sighting the security team, engaged them in a fierce gun duel.
However, the superior firepower of the security operatives led to the arrest of eight (8) members of the notorious gang while some other members of the gang fled into the forest and nearby communities.

“The CP enjoined residents particularly those around the Gwagwalada area of the FCT, to be vigilant and provide the Police with useful information that can assist in apprehending the gang members still at large. However, efforts are being intensified to arrest fleeing members of the gang.” All the suspects, the CP said will be charged to court on conclusion of the investigations.
He assured that Investigation is being intensified and dragnet extended to arrest all the criminals. The CP further implored residents to always report all suspicious movements and emergencies.
Meanwhile, the Niger state government on Friday night demolished the residence of a notorious kidnapper who confessed to having built the house with the proceedings of his crimes. The house which is a two-bedroom flat with an uncompleted two-bedroom extension was located in the Nkangbe community in Bosso local government area of Niger state.

Speaking to newsmen before the demolition, the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Honorable Emmanuel Umar, said that the gesture would serve as a deterrent to other criminals that the state government would give no place to criminals to live in the state.
According to the commissioner, the suspect has been identified as Muhammed Ahmadu and is said to be the mastermind behind the University of Abuja kidnapping. He added that the confession of Ahmadu led to the arrest of other members of his syndicate and the subsequent rescue of the victims who were kidnapped from the University of Abuja.
He said that Ahmadu further confessed to have participated in five major kidnapping incidents across Nigeria adding that he also confessed to have bought a house in Minna through the proceeds of his crimes. Umar further said that the suspects are currently under security interrogation and investigation. He reiterated the commitment of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to protect lives and properties and rid the State of all criminal activities.

“The State government will not allow the State to be a haven for kidnappers, bandits or any criminal.” Umar also urged the people to always be vigilant and report to security agencies any suspicious activities around their communities adding that such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
