Col. Olusegun Obasanjo led a group of Biafran secessionists whom he captured to surrender to the then Head of State of Federal Military Government of Nigeria, Major General Yakubu Gowon January 30, 1970.
Major General Phillip Efiong who led the Biafran secessionists to formally surrender to the Federal Military Government of Nigeria after a formal introduction by Colonel Obasanjo.

MAJOR GENERAL YAKUBU GOWON: We have with us today Col. Obasanjo and unfortunately the other field Commanders are not able to be with us at this moment.
But we have today, Colonel. Obasanjo who is the Commander of 3rd Marine Commandos who have been able to capture another senior secessionist officers and had brought them to Lagos to see us in order to let us have their acceptance of the spirit of ONE NIGERIA.
COLONEL. OBASANJO: …Formally give up secession and report for reappointment and redeployment (Saluted the Head of State, Major Gen, Yakubu Gowon)
Obasanjo introduced all the Biafran Officers led by Major General Philip Effiong, Parick Amadi and others at the ceremony to surrender to the Federal Military Government of Nigeria,
PHILIP EFFIONG saluted the Head of State “ÿour excellency” with a warm hand shake as Major General Gowon said; “glad to see you again” to all of them.
PHILIP EFFIONG: I will like to therefore to take this opportunity to say that I, Major General Philip Effiong, officer of ….administering the government of the Republic of Biafra now wish to make the following declaration:
• that we affirm we are loyal Nigerian citizens and
accept the authority of Federal Military Government of Nigeria.
• that we accept the existing administrative and political structure of the federation of Nigeria.
• that any future constitutional arrangement will be worked out by the representatives of Nigeria.
• that the republic of Biafra hereby seizes to exit.

All the above was done after senseless destruction of millions of lives and properties.
Should we now have a repeat of this senseless killings?
