AKWA Ibom State High Court presided over by Justice Bassey Nkanang on Thursday sentenced Uduak Akpan to death by hanging for the murder of University of Uyo graduate of Philosophy and a job seeker, Iniubong Umoren.

Umoren was killed in April 2021. She was job hunting while awaiting mobilisation for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
There was confusion in the Court as Akpan was sentenced to death by hanging. He attempted to escape shortly after the sentence was announced by the trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang..
Our correspondent reports that it took the intervention of the police to foil the attempted escape.
