THE Association of Nigeria Nurses And Midwives-Federal Health Institutions (ANNM-FHI) has alerted the Federal Government of incessant and unprovoked attacks on its members in the Federal Hospitals across the country.
In a statement issued by the National Chairman of the association,Comrade Morakinyo Olajide Rilwan made available to SOJ WORLDWIDE on Thursday, he said it is more worrisome, the spate at which members of the association are physically assaulted by the Doctors and patient call for immediate action from the authority concerned before it gets out of hands.

“The Association of Nigeria Nurses And Midwives – Federal Health Institutions Sector, which is an umbrella body of nurses working in federal health hospitals wishes to call on Federal Government, Federal Ministry of Health, the security organizations and relevant bodies to wade into the issue of WORK PLACE VIOLENCE against nurses all over the country where they are being physically attacked and assaulted without provocations. Doctors and patient relations now vent their angers on nurses just because they are the first point of contact and closer to patients throughout hospitalization.
This ugly trend is not just happening but the spate at which this ugly trend is going, if not curtailed, may affect accessibility of health care delivery by other innocent citizens.

This recent episode which started in month of JUNE2022 at National Hospital Abuja where a Doctor assaulted a female Nurse while on her duty post, then in Bayelsa State where four house officers gathered to beat up a male intern Nurse. And just within this month of August we have recorded two ugly incidence of this attacks at National Orthopedics Hospital Enugu on 4th August where a Doctor Slapped and molested a female nurse working in children ward of the hospital. While we are yet to get over that, another report of attack by a patient relation on a Male Accident and Emergency nurse at University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Edo State was also received.
The association thinks this should not happen in an environment where Team work spirit supposes to be preached and practiced since our main target and objective is patient health care delivery, and all efforts should be geared towards betterment of patient’s condition under our care.
We hereby call on justice to be served by all various Disciplinary committee set up by the institutions where these nefarious incidences happened so that it will serve as a deterrent to others who might have same tendency or attitude.
The association will not hesitate to use all available means within the Law to protect its members.”
