Controversy trailed the demolition of 17 buildings housing over 500 shops at the ALABA International Market in Lagos by the Lagos State Government.
The market is dominated by the Igbos who claimed that Governor of the State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu was victimizing them because the Igbos did not vote for his party in the 2023 Presidential election.

But the State Government official who spoke with SOJ WORLDWIDE Correspondent claimed the notice was served as far back as 2016 to the landlords and shop owners.
Government claimed that the buildings being demolished had one defect or the other and in order to safe lives and avert tragedy the buildings had to be demolished.
He insisted there was no any political undertones in the demolition of the buildings.
Sunday, June 18, 2023 was a day of sadness and frustrations for the owners of the houses and shops as they watched helplessly seeing their properties being demolished while hundreds of security men were on standby.
