The Speaker of the State of Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Timothy Owoeye gave an insight into the 3-day retreat organized for the Osun Assembly members at Iloko-Ijesha that commenced on Tuesday.
Hon Owoeye told reporters that, “It is not how far but how well, I want to assure you that the retreat coming up at this time is a training ground for young politicians.”
Hon Owoeye said 23 out of the 26 members of the house are new members and that the retreat is meant to allow new members to know the rules of the house and legislative business.
“This retreat will go a long way to impart knowledge to the members on how to go about legislative duties, oversight functions, and the roles of legislatures in democracy.”
“As a matter of fact, House of Assembly or legislature is an arm of government that will provide a check and watchdog of the executive and the judiciary vice versa the executive too can also play an oversight function on legislatures and that of the judiciary.”
